The Importance Of Landscape Edging On Your Landscape Beds

Should you get your landscape beds edged?  I’m Anthony with Ant’s Plants. We provide lawn fertilization, shrub care and other outdoor pest control services for Morris Somerset and Union County.

I want to talk about if it’s appropriate to get your beds edged.  I’m going to say absolutely yes. So landscape beds are mulch beds typically, they could also be covered with stone or any number of covering mediums. It’s where the plants live. It could be up against the house, up against the driveway, a walkway in the middle of the lawn, any number of spaces. But I want to specifically talk about the areas that meet the lawn.

So edging, and a lot of people think this means metal edging or plastic edging and it can, or stone edging. And it can mean those things ,but where we are most typically it means a mechanical edging of the area where they plunge a shovel in and delineate to create a clean line of delineation between the mulch bed and the grassy area. Why is this so important? Well it keeps the grass material out of the bed and it keeps the weeds and other material (The Mulch) out of the grass. It makes it significantly easier to care for that lawn, both as a lawn fertilization and weed control company and also your maintenance company will be much more grateful. They’ll be very grateful that you had that done, or you had them do it. It’s not a very expensive service and it’s a well worthwhile service. I always tell people it’s the equivalent of having a coloring book and sending someone out to color that coloring book in, or asking somebody to freehand that same drawing. There is no way, except in very specific circumstances, that someone’s going to freehand something better than they would be able to color in a coloring book. Right? So you’re giving them those lines to work within and you’re also creating that delineation of space and material so it looks significantly better and it functions much better.

Again, we don’t provide the service. We do not provide edging service, but you can talk to your landscape contractor. Feel free to give us a shout if you have questions about it, but we don’t provide it but I do believe that it’s crucial, so I’d recommend that you get it done. If you have questions, give us a shout, please feel free to comment, send us an email, give us a call and watch for more videos. Thank You.
