Lawn Aeration & Overseed Service

Today we’re doing an aeration and overseed. The first step to an aeration and overseed is to mark out your irrigation heads or a dog fence if you have one. If you don’t, no worries. If it’s not in use, no worries. Aeration and overseed is the process of pulling cores from the soil. It loosens the upper soil medium, it provides a little pocket for the seed to drop into, and have a microclimate of protection from the hot days and the cool nights. Better soil to seed contact and more consistent moisture for good germination, fall is the best time to do this. Typically August 15th to the first week in October. You can go a little bit on either side of that window, but that’s the golden zone. What you’re going to do with an aeration and overseed is promote density uniformity and any areas where you have bare spots, you’re hoping to generate some new growth and have that come up. What you’re going to see for the first year is going to be very small grasslings coming up and those will mature and harden off for that season. They’ll come through in the spring and they’ll be ready to go. Typically you’ll see them go from very small sprigs to mature grass plants by June the following year. For example,  we do it fall in 2023, June of 2024 is when you’re reaping the full benefits. Now,  you don’t want to do any aeration and overseed in the spring so really the fall is that great window. If you have to do it in the spring due to a construction issue, I mean we have to do what we have to do right.
