What to Expect From Your First Lawn Treatment

You'll Get a Notification

You'll receive a notification the day before your scheduled treatment by email or text, giving you a 4-hour window so you can plan around it if needed.

You Don't Need to Be Home

Most customers in Stirling, Basking Ridge, and Summit are at work when we treat. Just ensure side gates are unlocked, pets are inside, and the lawn is cleared of toys or hoses.

Mow 24–48 Hours Before

Recently mowed grass exposes weeds to better herbicide contact and helps fertilizer reach the soil more efficiently. If you can't mow before, try to mow within 48 hours after.

Weed Pressure

We check visible weed pressure to confirm what's actively growing and tailor the weed control application accordingly.

Grass Color & Density

We assess color and density to determine fertilization needs and spot any deficiencies that need attention.

Disease, Pests & Compaction

We look for signs of fungal disease, insect activity, or compaction. If something significant is found, we note it and follow up — no charges added without your approval.

Granular Fertilizer

Applied using professional-grade spreaders in two perpendicular passes (north-south then east-west) to prevent stripes from missed coverage and ensure even distribution.

Liquid Weed Control

Applied with a calibrated sprayer using overlapping passes for consistent coverage. Targets active broadleaf weeds and post-emergent crabgrass spotted during the property walk.

Custom to Your Lawn

The lawn typically looks the same when we leave as when we arrived — that's expected. The treatment is doing its work below the surface at the right rate per thousand square feet.

Required Treatment Flag

A small flag is placed at the front of the property letting you know a treatment was applied — required by New Jersey law for any pesticide application.

Written Visit Summary

A written summary is delivered to your account or email listing what was applied, what we observed during our walk, and recommendations for between-visit care. We encourage every customer to actually read it.

Pets & Kids

Keep pets and kids off the lawn until the application has fully dried — usually 1 to 2 hours, longer if it's humid. This is a standard precaution.

Watering

You don't need to water unless we specifically ask you to in the post-visit notes. Granular fertilizer actually benefits from light rain or watering to help it dissolve and reach the soil.

Mowing & Clippings

Mow as normal 24 to 48 hours after treatment, but don't bag the clippings for that first mow — the clippings carry the nutrients you just paid for.

Rain

Rain after treatment is usually fine. Most weed control products are rain-fast within 1 to 2 hours. Our technicians watch the weather and will reschedule rather than apply before significant rainfall.

7–14 Days

The first sign of progress is a deeper green color in the grass. That's the fertilization kicking in.

2–3 Weeks

Broadleaf weeds like dandelions and clover start curling and wilting within a few days, but may take 2 to 3 weeks to fully die back. Stubborn weeds get a follow-up touch-up included in our program.

2–3 Applications

The first treatment isn't a magic transformation — it's the start of a process. Most lawns need 2 to 3 full applications before the cumulative effect really shows. By midsummer, most customers are getting compliments from neighbors.

Is my lawn safe for pets and kids?

Yes, after the application has dried (typically 1 to 2 hours). The products we use are EPA registered for residential lawn use.

Can I just do this myself?

You can buy similar products at consumer outlets, but the challenge with DIY is timing, calibration, and product selection. Most homeowners who try DIY for a year or two end up hiring a service.

What if it doesn't work?

If we treat for something and it doesn't respond, we come back out at no charge. That's standard with most reputable companies.

How long to see a really good lawn?

Most properties hit visible improvement by year one and full transformation by year two on a comprehensive program. Properties with significant existing problems sometimes take three years.
